Ubuntu becoming operating system for smartphones?

Canonical seems trying to challenge Android, iPhone OS and Windows Phone with a new OS for smartphones: Ubuntu.

The job advertisement, published online about a person responsible for the development of Ubuntu as the operating system for smartphones. The candidate will be experienced in the mobile world and capable of dealing with manufacturers and operators.

If the news is confirmed it may get a new competitor in the mobile world, now that the industry had stabilized demonstrating the dominance of Android and iPhone OS, but there is the possibility that this is the project "Ubuntu for Android 'announced at Canonical the MWC 2012. The announcement is - perhaps - intentionally vague and before exposing ourselves expect more information in comments.
