Amazon Appstore celebrates first birthday, now hosts 31K apps

A year ago Amazon boldly launched a direct competitor to what was then known as the Android Market with a modest selection of around 4,000 apps. Twelve months later the service is celebrating its first birthday and solid growth to what now amounts to over 31,000 applications and games, driven by the excellent sales success of the Kindle Fire , was able to grow fast and carve out a small part of success among developers.

Speaking of numbers, the debut of the original store had about 4000 applications and we are now well in the past 31,000 games and programs offering deep discounts and promotions every week. For the occasion, Amazon has also released a ranking of the most downloaded titles during those 12 months between those paid and free services.
